Advent & Christmas

This Advent and Christmas join us in the Parish of Craighurst and Midhurst as we prepare our hearts and minds to welcome Jesus Christ. Advent is the season containing the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. These Sundays help us to get ready for Christ’s coming. Then on Christmas Eve we sing out for joy at his arrival that brings God’s peace to all the families of the earth.

A Chrismon Tree, like a Christmas Tree, is an evergreen tree that is set up in the church during the season of Advent and adorned with white and gold ornaments called Chrismons. Each Chrismon is a symbol (ex. fish, star, cross etc) that calls our attention to some aspect of Christ’s ministry and helps us prepare for his coming. During this service we sing hymns/carols and hear Scripture read.
