Discover Jesus in the Old Testament
After Jesus was raised from the dead, he met two of his disciples on their way from Jerusalem to Emmaus. The men were sad because they thought that Jesus was supposed to save Israel. Instead he was dead and buried. Strangely, they did not recognize Jesus until after he showed them that the Messiah had to suffer and rise again in fulfillment of the Old Testament. “They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?””
Where did the disciples see Jesus in the Old Testament? Why did it cause their hearts to burn? Over the course of five weeks beginning on Tuesday, February 16, the Rev’d Jeff Boldt is offering a guided Bible study to discover what the disciples saw in Scripture. The study will look at the correspondence between the Old Testament narrative and the life of Christ.
